Welcome back Hyun Bin!

Finally after serving his country Hyun Bin returns to his native Korean Entertainment much to the delight of his fans. Serving military is a honour for every Korean man and Hyun Bin was in tears at the fact that he had to leave the marines.

On his comeback he has commented “Since I couldn’t act during my vacations, I’d go to places where hoobaes were acting and would watch them and think about it… But now, the time has come for me to be able to act again, and as much as everyone has waited for me, I want to work hard in preparing to show you the acting I’ve wanted to do. I have stored all the energy that I’ve received as a soldier, so I will return energy back to everyone,”

Celebrating his return-Kpop Group SISTAR wrote on twitter,“We couldn’t meet you so we are writing on twitter. Hyun Bin Oppa! We sincerely congratulate you on your discharge from the military. We would like to see you in cool new productions now. We will also always support you!”. They also organised a friendly party to honour his return.

Vintage revivals- Love Rain

Retro or vintage fashion is something that never goes out of style- now and ever. Yoona’s fashion statement as Yoon Hee(Mom YoonaYoon ) in Love rain was without doubt a fine fashion inspiration.

Everything about the image of Yoon Hee was “Fine and Soft” – A fine Young lady, soft spoken, fine clothings, soft colors, fine hair and soft makeup.

Light coloured flowery patterned dress complemented with dark coloured cashmere or tweed plus high collar and classic white embroidery at the neckline. All this topped with a cute smile gives her a graceful appearance.

With conservative hemline and ankle-length socks she wore a low heeled ballets giving us old high school reminiscence.

Free flowing straight hair, long sleeves and nude colored watch brings out her obvious shy-image.

The complementarity in the colors of the layers is the one, single rule in the fashion statement.

To the beautiful You- My Expectations Vs Reality

Before the drama “To the Beautiful You” started airing I had a few expectations how the drama would be different from the original Japanese version. I has posted an article here at “Hallyu Guru” focusing on my hopes and expectations.

To view that article click here. (Please do read the article to get the full blast of the current article)

Now I have finished watching the whole drama and it doesn’t matter whether my expectations then were met or not because my hopes for the drama was not definitely shattered. Then why bother to write them?-Because who doesn’t like to muse about our predictions, right?

First things first, my sincere hope for volumed up romance between the main leads was met! THANK GOD! After all this is Korean Drama we are speaking about and people expect chemistry.

And when I say romance, it is strictly limited to passionate glances, heart-throbbing back hugs and chemistryless kiss. But I am not complaining- I think the director toned it down a bit to make it look genuinely high school. But there was a little bit creativity in the romance too-credits to the bicycle kiss:)

I thought there will be only a female rival(I was not sure whether I would like  it-but it was good- she was not a total vixen kind we normally see)but the scriptwriters have gone for a male rival too. 100 points for that! They were not just mere rivals who jumped in to the scene for plot sake. Bot the rivals have a strong relationship background with the leads. Seol Ha Na(the female rival)has been Tae Joon’s friend and follower like forever and Johnny(the male rival) likes Jae Hee so much that he forged the documents for her to enroll in Boy’s school. This kind of value addition helps in the better plot development. What romance is interesting without rivals and jealous-factor?

Other than the romantic rivalry- the professional rivalry was also better in this version. There the rival just acts like an ass while inside his heart he likes Sano. But here Min Hyeon Jae is in the same school, always considered second to Tae Joon(though inside his heart looks up on him),has less sofisticated economical background etc etc which gives him more solid reasons for not liking Tae Joon much. But after the turn of events he comes to like Tae Joon which reminded me how high school really can be. Sometimes the ones you hate would end up becoming your best friend.

I was hoping with my fingers crossed that the doctor charecter would be gay in Korean version too(there were speculations that he would be straight). Well he was, but he was not very much used in the gay humor like in the original. But at least I got my wish! Yay!

Eun-gyeol’s character was was pretty good. The way how he gets to know that he likes Sulli was all neatly placed but he did not quite make the cut of the Japanese “Nakatsu”. Maybe it was because Eun-gyeol’s character was a bit more serious or maybe because in this version he senses Sulli’s feelings for Minho and gets jealous in contrast to the original. But even with all this in my head  Eun-gyeol is my favorite in the whole drama.(Nakatsu is my favorite in Jap version).

I can proudly sat Min Ho pulled off Tae Joon’s character brilliantly and better than Japanese Sano. Sano was all about looking hot and athletic- But Tae Joon’s charecter did much more than that. As for Sulli- she has skills but I couldn’t even point one single frame in the whole drama where she looked boyish enough to pass for a guy. Casting a foreigners for Sulli’s brother and her BFF was really great. Making Sulli’s brother a doctor(foreigner probably adopted by Koreans and speaks good Korean) and changing the way how he finds out she is enrolled in a Boy’s school turned out to be more interesting. Daniel oppa is given more importance role-wise in this version.

The inclusion of a mother sentiment as a reason for Tae Joon giving up High Jump was much more powerful and moving than the original(where Sano would be injured while trying to save mizuki;but he would say that was not the reason he gave up- It was a little confusing). I was surely not expecting a “mother character”. Using the mother feelings to connect the male leads – in the scene where both of them watch a movie Tae joon watched with his mother together was heart warming.

But I missed two characters very much from the original dram- the playboy guy(Nanba) who was nowhere to be seen and the girly gay guy with feelings for the play boy- there was actually a guy who keeps wearing lip balm but his character development was not much in this version.

Good thing the script writers did not completely stick to the original plot! Hats off for the script writers for completely whitewashing all the logical loopholes in the plot and giving us a proper logical plot. The ending was feel good but not very creative-toooooo predictable. I mean,c’mon I am not eight anymore and anyone over eight can predict it.

Falling in love after marriage- Delightful Girl

They say marriage is made in heaven and love is the path to heaven. What happens when you reach heaven skipping the love road and taking a shortcut? No matter what you will be forced to take a romantic stroll across the love lane. That was the style in delightful girl. The love here has scandals, backstabbing, affairs but ends in the sweet heaven.

Falling for the one you marry after marriage is an absolute miracle. Especially when both fall for one another at different times. Life is not always easy. Sometimes a second late can change the life upside down. Chun Hyang was like a millisecond late to say Lee Mungryong that she liked him- The vixen entered the scene and that was the end of the “easy” romance for Chun Hyang. So If you like a guy wait for a right moment but don’t wait too much them you might end up waiting a whole lifetime for him.

Falling for him after marriage will change your life to the “growing up” with him from “growing old” with him.You would get a life long friend in the name of your life partner. So here’s the thing-love is not always borne at high school or college. There is always a special someone born for you somewhere in the corner of the world. As long a it is passionate falling for the special someone after marriage is not a bad idea.

Bad Kiss Chemistry In K Drama

The key butterfly moment of any K-Drama is Kiss. A lot can happen during a kiss- it can fog the viewers head leaving them speechless or make them wonder how two lips can brush with no chemistry at all. Some say that brushing of lips is a innocent way of kissing-point taken when the kiss is lasting for a millisecond. But why do people keep brushing the lips for hours long with no chemistry  at all? Nonsense.

There are such worst kisses in K-Drama history which makes the viewers think “When are these dolls gonna ever stop kissing?” Now that I have witnessed a handful of terrible kisses I am always threatened by a phobia of “bad kiss”. Bad kiss scenes ruin a potentially “beautiful thing”.

For instance the drama delightful girl where the kiss scene is a total disappointment. That kiss was an excellent example how an excellent kiss can be made only when the chemistry is shared by both the parties involved. In the kiss I could see the sparks flying from Lee Myungrong but Chun Hyang was totally incompatible to the sparks. It is not out of character for 3 Iron Jae Hee to have the “thing” but Chae Young heavily compromises the standard.

Same goes with Heartstrings- Here we are waiting for the moment to come only to see it go completely plain with no gut-feeling. It was like a five year old was puppet playing with Yong Hwa and Shin Hye to kiss.

In KDrama pool there are also some kisses which are momentous and extraordinary marked by hot chemistry and excellent scenario. Such kisses which keep lingering in our minds-I would say are one of a kind…Like this..

Meet my dream husband- Prince Shin

If you are a girl from India, dating someone and falling in love is a “near forbidden fruit”! So falling for the person after marriage is like becoming the Cinderella of our own world. What is more classier and attractive than falling for a prince after you have married him?

What makes Prince Shin a Good Husband?

  • He would think about what his wife-to-be would want-from freedom to chocolates and get her the same but would pretend not to care.
  • He would say the chocolates are from his cousin so that she thinks he is “thoughtless”.
  • He would piggy back her around when they are in a picnic.
  • He would kiss her on cheek in front of paparazzi.
  • He is too smart and can handle the paparazzi really good; So she don’t have to worry about scandals.
  • He would not touch her on their “arranged night” without your permission(only kiss). I think you wont have any complaints there.

  • He would be jealous to see hi wife being friends with his cousin(because he senses the fact that he like her)
  • He is a good photographer and takes adorable pictures of his wife.
  • He would help his wife pick up vegetables in her parents home garden.

  • Most importantly, he might secretly fall in love with his wife!!!

What makes him a terrible husband?

He would have affair with his first love after marriage.
He would not answer his wife’s calls when he is abroad and makes her worried(and) sick!
He would not send her home when she is sick(because he is afraid that she wont come back).

Why is being a princess that difficult?

Well you can think when you are in a palace how is life difficult? You will have everyone waiting on you head to toe. You get to wear pretty dresses and get the “envy” of the people around you. But tagged with these comes painful responsibilities and you feel you wings of freedom being cut off!

Life is never too sexy and easy as it sounds. People like prince Shin is like a dream come true; Only you find the reality much more harsher and at one point all you will want will be a normal life with a caring husband- Not sexy; comfortable.

But what is it that made the princess a perfect match for shin?

She was not the kind of girl who goes by law; rather she brushes through  the law and clouds the minds of the lawmakers. She looks the best in people and forgive easily. At times when the prince was a real jerk- you can see her going through hard time but she was happy the instant she felt the happy waves from the prince.

So if you have a incredible tolerance to pointless laws and can get through the fact that your husband had and still has a “girl he like”, you can think about shin. But only if you have the magical “princess” quality to make him fall for you,you can be sure that he is your soul mate.

Greatest Love- Episode 1 “Scribbles”

DO NOT READ if you don’t want us to break the surprises that come ahead!

The life lesson I learnt from the first episode of the “Greatest Love” is how cruel time can be to life. One second you at the star of the town and the next second you are cast away as a dump. This first episode was a kind of extended introduction to the lead roles and their lifestyle- Implying how unlikely they are to fall for each other!

The episode starts with the girl group “Treasure Girls” performing in a music show in one corner of Korea and somewhere around a doctor is hearing the performance during the heart surgery. He feels that their song “THUMP THUMP” might make his patient’s heart go “THUMP THUMP” too. The treasure gilrs win the music show and the leader Gu Ae Jung is asked convey a few words. But she couldn’t- Happy tears were rolling down her cheeks and so does it for the rest of the group. The crowd are cheering them and asking them not to cry! Gu Ae Jung thanks the fan crowd for their support and promises to do well in the future.*CROWD CHEERS* And it was “Happily Ever After” for the treasure girls FOR NOW.

It was a variety show for the rookie artists –“If I tell I will do it,I will”. I midst of rookies we see Gu Ae Jung, the former treasure girls’ leader in poor clothes, drained of all her past  charisma. She takes part in the variety show as a past idol but fails in all the tasks and is pushed to the last place. There was only one more task left and only if she completes it she would be called for the next week’s show. The task was eating noodles while riding in a roller coaster- the worst and possibly yucky task ever. Don’t these people know the basic workings of digestive system and general law of physics(How can the noodles stay in the plate while the roller coaster is running?). But by her determination and desperation Gu Ae Jung finishes her task!! FIGHTING!

Meanwhile the screening of the action movie “Fighter”(starring Dok Go Jin) is screened. At first there was a positive reaction from the crowd for the star and his stunts. But too much of anything is…That’s right too much of the action in the movie bored the audiences to death. Even the manager of Dok Go Jin was happily napping near him towards the end. This does infuriate him but somehow he manages to hold himself and gives a “pretend” happy speech. Good thing he knows how to act! Good times from the past seem to have fallen down for Gu Ae Jung! She does not act like a star and has her brother for her manager. But on the other side Dok Go Jin is at the peak of his career. Just because he rejected a drama- the drama was a total failure and he was looking forward for a Hollywood  Peter Jason project. To make the odds in favour for him he even sent a gift of wine to peter.

Dok Go Jin’s classy van stops next to Gu Ae Jung’s cheap ride in a gas station. Gu Ae Jung is having a indigestion because of having noodles in roller coaster and waits for her brother/manager to bring her cola. She steps out of her car for some fresh air. She sees the celebrity van and tries to peek a look on who was inside the van. A fan looks at the celebrity van and Gu Ae Jung standing besides it and concludes that she must be a star. Gu Ae Jung senses this and starts to goof around pretending to be star. Dok Go Jin notices this and gets irritated and pushes Gu Ae Jung(who was now leaning on his van) away with a rolled paper.

Gu Ae Jung apologises and tries to greet him. But Dok Go Jin behaves haughty and arrogant. They get into a trivial fight- she calls him “ahjussi”(term for old man), he pokes her with rolled paper, they start having a mini-wrestling through the van window and finally he ends up twisting her hand and signing his autograph on it. Doing so he leaves while Ae Jung is still shouting at him. Gu Ae Jung asks her brother whether he recognises the signature but he doesn’t. Then we are shown a  billboard just behind her with the same signature and Dok Go Jin’s photo. People do fail to notice the thing they need when it is right next to them.

When one of the treasure is pushed down another is sprung up to the “super star” status. Intoducing Kang Se Ri- fashion icon and top star.Anything she wears instantly becomes fashion. Kang Se Ri and Dok Go Jin are dating for the cameras only-two top stars pretending to be in a real life romantic relationship. They have to act like couples before the cameras- This somehow reminded me of the variety show “We Got Married”. Both of them have mutual hate for each other but still pretend to have romantic dinner and blah blah blah! The second main lead Yoon Pil Joo, a doctor of oriental medicine with no knowledge of celebrity world enter the drama scene with him having a blind date in the same hotel as the two top stars.

In contrast to Gu Ae Jung’s tiny household where everyone is a failure in their career(she in show business ad her sibling and dad in gym business) Dok Go Jin is living in the lap of luxury. He has standardised scheduled lifestyle and does every little thing in organised manner. He even has a handy watch type heart rate monitor.

Dok Go Jin goes through all the negative reviews he got for his movie in his tablet and gets angry. Finally he decides to hold his trust on the upcoming Hollywood project.Sad Gu Ae Jung seems to have failed in the roller coaster challenge too(poor Gu Ae Jung). I thought she has completed it. Apparently she had spilled some noodles. But hello noodles spill when eaten in roller coaster..basic physics!! Her brother/manager consoles her.

Someone says candy aritists and Gu Ae Jung looks up. She greets the colour clad girl group as “Hello Kids”. She tells them that she was known to them and was a senior and wanted to greet them. But they haughtily ignore her. She is hurt a little but advices them to greet others. A man who looks like their manager gets irritated by Gu Ae Jung but doesn’t show it out. He asks the girls to greet her. But before leaving that guy hints that Gu Ae Jung was not worth lecturing them as she was the same when she was young.(Ofcourse everyone acts like that in their teen. But they group up Mr.Grumpy!!)

Mr Grumpy’s name is Jang-Manager Jang. He does not like GuAe Jung because he thinks Treasure Girls broke up because of her. Gu Ae Jung has borrowed a expensive scarf from her friend Jenny to wear for radio broadcast in the afternoon. She bumps on Dok Go Jin and HOLA! He is wearing the same scarf! HA HA! He doesn’t seem too pleased about it! So he leaves irritated without shaking hands. (Well that’s what happens when you hit the star on his ego). When he reaches the green room the first thing he does is- ANY GUESS?- throws away the “ego hitting” scarf and scolds his poor manager! Meanwhile Gu Ae Jung checks herself out in the mirror and finds the scarf missing.  Jeez… She has accidentally left it in the loo and it was all wet.(Now how is she gonna return it?) She starts crying out  to her brother.Just then it hit her the scarf designers would not fret much if the same mistake is done by a top star. So she decides to switch it!

She sneaks into the green room and switches it. She apologizes to his coat for switching scarves. Just when she was about to leave Dok Go Jin returns. Her brother tries to hold him up a bit. She hides herself behind clothes as he enters the room with the manager. The manager asks him to tell the producers that his eardrums are hurting during the episode shooting. But Dok Go Jin says that he does not like others knowing that he was accident porne. When he asks his manager about the Hollywood project, he gets to know that he was rejected because his English was not good.

Dok Go Jin is flamed up on hearing it and throws his manger out. He tries to calm himself(Even his heart monitor started beeping). Gu AE Jung feels sorry for him and switches back the scarf and decides to leave. But she was too late! When she was about to leave, Dok Go Jin comes out of the washroom. She quickly adapts herself to the situation and tells him that she was his fan and stepped in for his sign. He quickly grabs her scarf and signs on it. She was dumbstruck and starts throwing a fit-she tells him that the scarf was very expensive, his sign was not looking like a sign;only a triangle(keke).  He coolly throws away the twin scarf to her stating she can keep it. His voice and slang rings a bell on Gu Ae Jung and she stares at him. He misunderstands her thinking she wants the signed scarf and throws it at her. G Ae Jung was confirmed of her doubt.IT WAS THE SAME MAN.

She rushes towards him and confronts him. She shows him the signature he scribbled on her had earlier. She asks him to apologize. Being a talented actor he just acted like apologising….NOT MEANING A WORD and demands his scarf back.(POOR AE JUNG!!). She holds on to the scarf like her life depended on it. He manages to snatch it, ties it around his neck  and leaves. And he is doing this funnly dance like thingy…wow…lol

The radio station MC notice the sign in the scarf and asks about it when they are “On Air”. She asks Gu Ae Jung if she was a fan but her tongue slips and she says she is not. Instead she says that one of her acquaintance was a great fan of his. The radio starts prying and asks her if she knows him personally. Gu Ae Jung says that he is the “King Of Disrespect”- OMG!! She is in trouble. Just then it is shown that was a imaginary sequence. Instead she says he works really hard for acting- hurting his eardrum and learning martial arts ;Also because he did not want it get out because his fans will be worried.

Gu Ae Jung was kind of back into rada; came to the top searched list! Dok Go Jin’s fans were all complimenting her.(I am thinking what will Dok Go Jin do? His injured eardrum was a secret!). Beacause of this Gu Ae Jung is offered a role in “World Changing Quis” variety show. Kang Se Ri is looking for a guy to be the “perfect man” in her variety show. Next scene we see the doctor. Cliché. SO the doctor is the perfect man!

Dok Go Jin was deciding on what to tell the public about his Hollywood project. His manager suggest he say that he cannot go because of his ear injury now that it is hot topic. OFC Dok is surprised. He then comes to know that Gu Ae Jung was miss popular years back but because of their tragic diabandment and a scandal to follow she was spat out of celebrity world. He takes a while but finally figures out that she had eavesdropped on his conversation with his manager,Jae Suk. Only then it hit him- She should know about peter Jason ovie then! BAM! “Fin out her cell number”

GU Ae Jung is worried on what to do with the scarf. Her friend consoles her by saying that she will sell it in Dok Go Jin fanclub. Ae Jung is also worried since the producers of the reality show are asking for Dok Go Jin to make appearance and she does not even have his number. Just then her cellphone rings. Guess Who? Dok Go Jin!! Touche!

So they meet for dinner(DATE..lol) . Gu Ae Jung asks him the favour but he insults her. Then she tries to beg him and when nothing worked stars blackmailing him. He gets irritated and gets back on her by asking whether she was “Yakuza’s mistress”. He hit her right on the spot. She gets irritated and leaves.

After returning home he starts googling Gu Ae Jung in his tablet and hears her song “Thump,Thump”. He sees her photo in the tab- it has the same expression as when she looked at him when he asked her if she was a mistress. His heart monitor starts beeping. He looks puzzled.

Everything was getting ready for the variety show- “World changing Quiz”. Gu Ae Jung was helpless; She calls Dok Go Jin and asks for his favour one last time. But he says he won’t do it and hangs up the phone. But he keeps glancing at the phone(Are you thinking what I am thinking?). Kang Se Ri is really surprised to know that Gu Ae Jung knows her pretend boyfriend! Meanwhile MrDok was waiting for the phone call!(LOL)In the variety show the call is finally made. But no one is answering the call yet; Everyone is waiting. No one yet. Everyone thinks that was the end. And then someone says “Hello”.

Gu Ae Jung is surprised; Kang Se Ri is surprised; But I am not. But I am happy and jumping!!!

And then it was a variety show and he has to guess the fruits- I dunno what was the best part! The whole of it was good- Him answering the questions calm at first and then picking up enthusiasm. Hi s manager looking surprised Or the last fruit and its clue!

Yep the last fruit was group and the clue was wine- Peter Jason wine. The TV people are keen and the pricked their ear to it and asks about it.

Gu Ae Jung and Dok Go Jin are Dumbstuck!

Episode Ends!!!!!

My Episode Rating- 4/5

The Hong sisters are at their best once again!

Red Carpet Spot- Ye Eun- Oh My Lady!

Yeah! That’s right the adorable kid from “Oh My Lady”. She stole my heart right from her entry. It is a pity that she seldom spoke all through the drama- Still I would say she was a silent speaker.

Everything about the cutie pie was cute-Even the micro things like crossing her legs to show that she has to pee. At the start of the series all I see was the sadness in the child’s eye. It nearly drove me to tears. Seeing her made me realize how lucky I was to have my parents. She had both her parents living yet she was abandoned! How can the mother even bear to abandon that pretty little thing. She must really have a heart for stone- May be that’s why they did not show her face in the whole drama!

I can only imagine how terrible the child would have felt when she was thrown out by her dad(played by SuJu hottie Choi Siwon) the first time she meets him. Also aftermath he was raising his voice over that sweet kid who was too afraid to speak. I would have felt happier if the child has spoken a little more towards the end of the drama!

But somehow she managed to melt her dad. How can’t she? She had this innocent face for which even the wildest of animals would be tamed.

When she got lost in the store she almost gave a heart attack to her dad. That was the time I felt that “blood runs thicker”. The moment when she is found and looks at Min Woo and smiles, Wah! It gave me goosebumps. It is the best scene in the whole drama!

This cutie pie was also a smarty pants. At once she realized that her dad was not gonnna scold her for anything- she started acting naughty! It was so refreshing and charming to watch her play with her dad and to find that Min Woo’s fatherly instincts were finally surfacing.

I was only content after her happily ever after ending with her father.

Ye Eun made me realize that marriage was not some joke and parents had to try their best to get along putting their misunderstandings aside when there is a child involved. A child always needs their parents.

Thank You Mom and Dad! I love you! You Rock \m/
